Viola cornuta

Violas meet the requirements of Texas Superstar plants because they perform well throughout the state, are easy to propagate, widely available and reasonably priced. Although violas can be planted from seed, buying transplants is a good way to ensure plant quality. Plant them from October through February. Violas are not totally immune to extreme cold but handle Texas winters well. They are usually available throughout the cool season, but if you are in search of specific varieties or popular colors, shopping in October to November is recommended to get exactly what you want.
Exposure: Violas grow and flower best in full sun.
Size: Plants grow in mounds, with individual plants achieving 6 to 8 inches in height and 4 to 6 inches in width.

Planting time: Best planted from transplants in October to November.
Soil type: Violas need well drained but moist soil. Do not let them dry out.

Special notes: Good cool season annual for color from October to February.
